MILES DAVIS QUINTET - LIVE IN STOCKHOLM

Il secondo grande quintetto di Miles Davis, mi ha sempre trasmesso una sensazione di potenza, vitalità e innovazione. E' arcinoto, che Davis fosse un grande nell'arruolare gli elementi giusti ma qui compì  un autentico capolavoro. Il periodo a cavallo tra la fine degli anni cinquanta e la metà dei '60 imponeva al trombettista di Alton una svolta radicale per sua stessa esigenza e dopo un periodo in cui meditò il ritiro, trovò nuovi stimoli  in una straordinaria sezione ritmica con Herbie Hancock al piano, Ron Carter al basso e un fiammante Toni Williams alla batteria. Proprio quest'ultimo, per ammissione dei componenti del quintetto, li spinse a osare verso una maggiore libertà espressiva. Il repertorio anche con il nuovo gruppo non cambiò, venne però interpretato secondo i modi del nuovo corso, che prima di giungere alla definitiva formazione con Wayne Shorter, vide comparire George Coleman e Sam Rivers.
